On September 26, the Trump Administration announced plans to propose a record-low goal for U.S. refugee admissions for FY2020 of just 18,000 refugees. This is in stark contrast to the U.S. historic, annual average goal of 95,000 refugees. In response, hundreds of elected officials, congregations, and business leaders from all 50 states have demonstrated their support for refugee resettlement. The refugee resettlement program has historically had bipartisan, widespread support.

As your constituent, I urge you to join an important letter to Secretary Pompeo, led by Congressman Buck (R-CO-4), which affirms the need for the U.S. to accept and care for refugees. The letter urges the administration to uphold our nation's commitment to assist refugees.To obtain a copy of the letter and to sign on, contact James Hampson in Representative Buck's office - James.Hampson@mail.house.gov The deadline to sign is COB on Tuesday, October 15.

As a person of faith, I believe it is a moral duty to welcome the stranger, especially those who are most vulnerable. At a time when the number of forcibly displaced people around the world is at an all-time high, it is essential that we act to demonstrate our commitment to assist refugees.
